Harmby Parish Council

Harmby village is located on the A684 road which cuts through the very top edge of the village, approximately one mile to the east of the market town of Leyburn in Wensleydale.

These days the village consists of approximately 300 residents. It has one pub called the Pheasant Inn, a chapel, a village hall and playing fields that all support a thriving village community.

We have a close association with the nearby village of Spennithorne just half a mile down the road, especially in sport. The Sports Association have strong football and cricket teams, there are floodlit tennis courts together with petanque and quoits teams. Carpet bowls are also played in the village hall.

There are many events for all ages held in the busy village hall and there is a children’s play area adjacent.

Although only a mile from the bustling market town of Leyburn, Harmby is essentially a rural community and the parish has many footpaths, opening up into the stunning Wensledale countryside. The River Ure runs nearby which has a growing reputation for salmon and of course the native brown trout. Naturalists will find that the area is teaming with wildlife and otters can be seen near the river.
