Headstones: Safety Check – October 2025

We have recently carried out an inspection of all headstones in Spennithorne and Harmby Cemetery.  Three headstones have been marked as unsafe and we have placed a notice on each one.

Since we do not have up-to-date contact details for the next of kin, we are unable to send written notification about the condition of the headstone.

The notice will remain in place in case the next of kin gets in touch by emailing the Parish Clerk at harmbyparishcouncil@gmail.com

If any of the three identified headstones at a later date are assessed as dangerous, they may need to be laid down in the interest of health and safety.  This may be the case for any future headstones when inspected in the future.

The headstones are

248 Thomar Mawer died 5 Nov 1889 aged 79 lived in Harmby

314 William Dennison died 1 July 1888 aged 86 lived in Harmby

322 Richard Warrior died 27 July 1889 aged 65 lived in Spennithorne

If you are the next of kin, or have relevant information, please contact the Parish Clerk  (details above)
